Title: Why extra cost for MP3?
Post by: gpsjeep on December 31, 2009, 09:22:17 am
Why is there a charge for the mp3 encoder to rip to MP3 format?
I'm getting ready for a New Years eve road trip and wanted to rip some CDs but I got a pop up message saying that I need to purchase an mp3 encoder.  Why is this?
Thanjs,
-Jeff

due to licensing agreements, that's why for exemple, linux os not even play mp3 files! use ogg or if mp3 is necessary install manually a free mp3 lame codec

you should not compare Apple and Microsoft to free JRiver product, they paid for it, because they know that mp3 is the most popular music format.
