Didn't get any response to my question about this some time ago, and it's more widespread than I thought. If I add albums to Playing Now from the Album view (right-click, 'add to Playing Now'), some fraction of them get added (and play) in filename order rather than track order (even though they show in track order before they are added.) Can't see a pattern. The library was largely converted from MC11, but albums ripped since then do this also. Is there a way to stop this from happening? It's very tiresome to have to check every album and re-arrange them on the list.

Is "shuffle" on? It's a button in the upper right corner.

Sorry I took so long to get back to this. I had decided to ignore the problem, but then I added some new tracks and discovered that EVERY new album I add to the MC14 database ALWAYS plays in name order, even though the vast majority of the 19,000 tracks I imported from MC11 play in track order. (This is when I add them by right-clicking on the album name, my normal method of adding to Playing Now--if I highlight the files in the Track window, they get added in track order.) I can't find any options or setting to change this, and with some albums it drives me nuts.
It's not random behavior--it's repeatable on an album-by-album basis, and frankly, I'm having trouble thinking why I would EVER want to play an album alphabetically by track name. Is there some way to fix this?

AFAIK, tracks are added to Playing Now in the same order they appear in the view from which they are added. How are the tracks sorted in your Album view? In Customize View, check the Sort inside groups... settings.

Thanks very much, that seems to have done the trick. The Album view was set to sort inside groups in "Default" order, and Track# was not one of the choices, so I had to add it as a "Custom" choice. Note that the track view in the Track pane is exactly the same as it was before [i.e. album tracks are listed in Track order just as they were before--no sign of a change in the display]. But now the albums that always played in Name order are being added in Track order. From my point of view, it seems like a bug of sorts, but maybe there's some reason for this seemingly odd behavior.

Getting something to work is always easier than determining whether the behaviour is a bug, anomaly or feature. ;)
