Title: Twelve year old technology works pretty good
Post by: JimH on February 05, 2010, 05:53:43 pm
When we bought our house six years ago, it came with a system that connected a receiver in the basement with speaker sets in the living room, kitchen, and a couple of bedrooms.  We've used it for radio a little, but today I found a better use for it.

I put a Western Digital HD TV Live (http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=55369.0) box in the basement this afternoon.  It's connected to Powerline Ethernet and feeds analog music to the receiver with RCA jacks.  It can also do video and photos, but I'm only using it for music right now.

The WD is a DLNA box that accepts a stream of music from MC14.  It can connect to a receiver with analog or digital cables.

The payoff is that I can now sit at my desk and play music to the receiver via the WD HD.  I can then turn a little knob in any room and get the music from the speakers in the ceiling.  Nice!
