Title: "Failed to find local Media Server" - Please help getting started
Post by: Bobo4567 on February 06, 2010, 10:25:57 am
Hi! Trying to get a MC Client connected to the MC Library Server. But still without success ....

Both laptops have MC 14.0.137 and working in one wifi LAN.
On the 1st PC the Library Servers is running on Port 80 (auto detection).

When searching for a library server, MC comes up with the "Failed to find ...." message.
Trying "http://192.168.178.40:80/GetLibrary" in the IE results with a "Can not find .../ DNS Error - Server cannot be found" message.

A Ping from the 2nd PC to the server is succesfull.
UDP Port 5556 is open for the MC Client.
The Client runs WIN 7. The Library Server XP

Any ideas / hints?

Thanks!

Try another port.  8081, for example.

Make sure the firewalls on both sides are open on that port.

Try adding a library in Library Manager.  There are examples for the location.  192.168.178.40:8081, for example.

From our wiki:

Port 8081 works - Thanks JimH!

Maybe someone could update the wiki with this hint.

Bye

Maybe someone could update the wiki with this hint.
I think the wiki says to try another port if needed.

It isn't possible to know what ports are in use on your machine.
