Title: Media Server & Streaming AVIs
Post by: The Mastermind on February 20, 2010, 06:36:11 am
I have just purchased Media Center and have it set up so that my desktop is the server and my laptop is the client. My laptop is connected to my TV to watch videos.

Initially I set up my library in the laptop by using My Network Places as the pathway to my video files on the desktop . This was reasonably efficient and allows me to watch AVI movies instantly.

I looked into things deeper and have since set up the Media Server function, which has a number of benefits over my first setup.

However, I am wondering why AVI files have to load in Media Server and can't simply be streamed. The load time can be considerable.

Is there any workaround to this?

Cheers.

Bump.

Thinking about this a bit more, I'm wondering if there's a problem with my connection.

Is a minute or so to load a short Tom & Jerry cartoon about what I sould expect? Or should it be loading into the client computer faster than that?

At the speeds I'm getting it would take a very long time for a movie to load.
