I have just "upgraded " from MC13 to MC14 and all of a sudden my m4p files won't play, I keep getting an pop-up to download quick-time. What's happened?

m4p files can be played in Quicktime engine only.  This is true in MC13 as well as MC14.  There has not been any change in this aspect going from MC13 tp MC14.  Therefore it may just be a coincidence that you lost the ability.  Maybe your Quicktime installation is messed up somehow.  Try reinstalling iTunes.

Does this limitation remain in MC15?

Yes.  It is unlikely to change because there is no other way.
