In the 14.0.151 release, there is a new option to use the JRiver Audio Renderer for video playback. I know this needs to be enabled under "Features", but I am not sure what is supposed to happen after that. For instance I haven't seen this as a choice in the video setup area. Can anyone offer any guidance on how to use this feature?

Once enabled, all video playback will use the same output as configured in Options > Audio.
This means you can use ASIO or WASAPI exclusive for video playback. You can also use DSP Studio for audio mixing, effects, and more when this is enabled.
This is still experimental, so tread lightly.

I was thinking that was the way it was supposed to work, but haven't had any luck with it yet. Does it matter what you have selected for filters in Options > Video? I have CCCP installed.

It probably only works with analog input, not AC3.
So select AC3Filter or FFDShow for analog decoding.

Do you mean the new feature will only work for analog output and not S/pdif pass-through?

Ultimately, I am trying for S/pdif pass through.
It's unlikely you would want this feature then.
It's designed to allow high-quality analog signal processing and output.
You can decode AC3, apply processing, and reencode to AC3 using DSP Studio, but this is not the primary intention.

OK, I was hoping to get AC3 pass-through on an older RME card I'm using. Because it is old, most programs can only "see" the ASIO component of this driver, so I was hoping the new feature would take advantage of that. Windows doesn't even list the card under sound devices in Control Panel, however Device Manager does see it. Works fine in MC for 2 ch. (APE / FLAC) analog and S/pdif playback and Media Player Classic will do AC3 pass through with it. As an experiment I'll have to try to see if I can at least get analog audio to work with video playback.

Oh, I see. It might help you in this case.
Wait a few builds and try it again. We're focused on the analog side for now, but it might be simple to bitstream AC3 over ASIO as well.
