Title: Different AC3 Filter behaviour on 2 separate installations
Post by: audunth on March 15, 2010, 10:18:44 am
Hi!

On my system, I have 2 separate Windows 7 installations on different hard drives. This is so that if my system suddenly has a "bad day", which of course would most likely happen when there are friends visiting, a movie is selected for viewing, and warm pizza is on the table, I'm never more than a restart away from a fully working system.

On both systems I have MC 14.0.155 and AC3 Filter 1.63b installed. I have 2 zones in MC, one for analog output through my Yamaha's receiver's zone 2 to my stereo speakers in the living room, and one for HDMI output through the Yamaha's main zone to my Home Theater 7.1 setup.

On both installations I have Use S/PDIF ticked in AC3 Filter's options. On one installation, somehow the S/PDIF gets disabled for the living room zone (if I open the AC3 Filter options during playback, the Use S/PDIF option has (disabled) behind it. I guess MC is telling AC3 Filter that analog output is being used and therefore disables S/PDIF in AC3 Filter? Anyway, in the other installation, it doesn't work like that, and if I switch to the living room zone and starts a movie I only hear something close to a very bright helicopter sound from the speakers until I open the AC3 Filter options and untick Use S/PDIF which now doesn't have (disabled) behind it like the other installation.

I don't know what's different between my installations, since I try to keep the settings identical. I guess I could copy the registry settings for both MC and AC3 Filter from the installation that works and that might solve the problem, but I wanna KNOW what exact setting in MC or AC3 Filter is causing this strange behaviour.

So if anyone could shed some light on this mystery for me, I'd be very grateful :)
