Title: Does Media Server need to be running if MC is?
Post by: jmone on March 25, 2010, 04:21:24 am
Is there any reason to run Media Server if MC is running?
Thanks
Nathan

I use it for protection from closing MС in client mode without synchronization with the server db for example

On the server PC:

Only if you want to keep the subset of features that Media Server enables running when you close the full Media Center interface on the server PC.

On a client PC: (??)

morrison,

Do you mean that you can load a server library on a client, start Media Server on the same PC, and if you accidentally close the full MC interface the running Media Server instance keeps the loaded library alive and preserves the possible changes? (I have never tried that.)

Edit: edited a bit...

Yes Alex, I use it so.
Plus, before I had a few MC-servers  (now I mean the database server) on a single machine - MC12 for compatibility with MJ12 clients, MC14 for the main base - and it works like "close to tray" in this case too.
