Title: TV Recordings
Post by: jkerry on March 26, 2010, 07:36:04 am
I can not find where I can get my TV recordings to a WMV file format to allow me to put them on a DVD.

Please advise how I can do this.

Tks,
Jeff

Windows Movie Maker can be used to open Media Center TV recordings and convert them to WMV.

Are you trying to end up with WMV on the DVD, or an actual DVD?

If you are trying to create an actual DVD (to play back in a normal DVD player) why are you bothering with WMV in the middle?  Not sure, but I think MC uses MPEG2 for TV recording, and normal DVD's use MPEG2 for video.  Why would you want to convert from MPEG2 to WMV (losing some quality) and then back to MPEG2 (losing more quality)?

Edit - looks like MC may not use MPEG2 for TV recording, but the question on WMV still stands.  Why convert from native to WMV (lose quality) to MPEG2 (lose quality) instead of just the one transcode to MPEG2 for DVD?
