Title: DLNA server not converting APE to MP3
Post by: SterlingY on April 11, 2010, 11:44:04 pm
I was shocked at how easy it was to get my PS3 to play audio from the DLNA server.

Unfortunately, it seems to only support MP3. Most of my files are in APE format and the PS3 says they are unsupported.

I did setup the converter, but it doesn't seem to work.

Is there a trick I am not aware of?

Cheers,

Sterling ::)

Try "Always convert".  Try different settings for conversion.

In options for DLNA (under Network), there is a PS3 option.

If you choose a server based off of Playstation 3 preset you will get the correct options. If the PS3 is your only DLNA device you can delete the generic DLNA server after creating a PS3 one.

Basically for audio the preset sets "convert when necessary" and "uncompressed wave". MP3's will always be played without conversion in this scenario. Everything else will be converted to uncompressed wave which is what the PS3 supports when transcoding. The PS3 doesn't support transcoding to mp3.
