Title: FYI: Last.fm Scrobbler/API Change
Post by: bunglemebaby on April 13, 2010, 05:19:27 pm
fyi, Last.fm appears to be changing their scrobbling method/format.
See here:
http://www.last.fm/forum/21716/_/611779 (http://www.last.fm/forum/21716/_/611779)

I like being able to scrobble so I hope that JRiver will take the time to make sure this feature of MC continues to work. From the sounds of it, this change could also open up some new features too...but that's getting off track. I like my scrobbles.

I was about to post that :P

What you said + i hope the awesome and kind devs at JRiver (/slurp) will implement the "de-facto" feature of being able to scrobble in real time (as almost all last.fm scrobblers out there are able to!)

:D

Maybe I know less about this scrobbling stuff than I thought, but doesn't MC scrobble in "real time" now?
If I go to last.fm while MC is playing last.fm will show the song previously played in MC (or the currently playing one if past the halfway mark).

It has to do with how the data are being "served" to last.fm servers. If you watch your last.fm profile while listening to music via the official client or by using some of the official plugins available for various players, you will notice on the recent tracks a "Listening now" instead of "just listened". That's realtime scrobbling!

What mc does is to upload the the song's playing information to last.fm after a fixed threshold in the song's duration. (i totally ruined that phrase with my poor english, but i hope you get the point :P)

Hmm...might this be a cause of MC (14) having been unable to scrobble anything since yesterday afternoon?

Are you still getting scrobbler errors (prior to reinstalling)? Have you gotten that one repeatedly?
I occasionally get connection errors like you posted, but then it starts working again, often without even restarting the program.

No, I had never received that error before the other day. I've restarted the app and Windows since, error continues.

I haven't been able to scrobble using MC15 (15.0.17).  ?  All of my last.fm credentials are entered but something isn't right.

Queue.xml is empty and StatusLog.txt from this morning looks like the following:

Code: [Select]
27/04/2010 09:17:00.137 (9) > AS plugin initialised
27/04/2010 09:17:00.121 (7) > AS thread started
27/04/2010 09:17:00.106 (6) > AS thread starting
27/04/2010 09:17:00.090 (5) > Loaded 0 entries
27/04/2010 09:17:00.090 (4) > Loading queue from C:\Documents and Settings\[user]\Application Data\J River\last.fm\Queue.xml
27/04/2010 09:17:00.074 (3) > Created EventShutdown=0x57c   EventData=0x424
27/04/2010 09:17:00.059 (2) > Loaded 0 entries
27/04/2010 09:17:00.012 (1) > Initialising AS plugin

I've gone back to MC12 until I get this figured out.

I haven't been able to scrobble using MC15 (15.0.17).
MC15.0.32 is at the top of the MC15 board.
