Title: Library server problems
Post by: TheDuke on April 14, 2010, 09:22:08 am
I have now moved my question to the MC15 section as I have put the latest build on both computer now
Ive been mucking around with DNLA and all functions work well and its all very nifty.

However my problem is with library server

I have the desktop hooked up with a 1gb/s ethernet cable and the laptop at 100 mb/s ethernet just to try and work things out

If I try to stream a reasonably low res video to the laptop it takes a couple of minutes for the video to start
If I dont load the server library and just find the file on the network it takes about 15 seconds to start
It takes Windows Media Center about 10 seconds

I would much rather use library server but how can I speed it up? What is going wrong?

Hi Duke,
The issue is that some Video files don't like to be streamed (and hence need to be downloaded first), however MC has a workaround:

1) Make sure all your files can be accessed by both PC's using the same mapping or share.  Eg:  All my media files are stored in \\SERVER\MEDIA\VIDEO\File.mpg etc.
2) Under Tools --> Options --> Library & Folders check "Play local file if one that matches the Library Server file is found"

Bingo!  You can use Library server + get the performance of local file playback.

Thanks
Nathan

Hi Nahan
it doesn't seem to be working for some reason
With video files MC isn't recognising the "local file" and downloads the movie first
It works with audio files however

Cheers
Rob

All sorted now and working great.
What i hadn't done was to make sure that the mapped drive had the same letter
all good now, working great and play stats sync backed to server

Glad you have it working.  Now that it is setup you can connect from clients both within the house and from the I'Net if you want!

Thanks, I've been trying to get this working for a while and have finally got it going.

The problem is that tagging has become really erratic. When I update tags on files situated on the server pathway the info isn't saved and I get a message telling me so when I close MC.
