Why is it that when I select a different playback method, the functionality of my remote changes?
I used to have "Automatic" selected, but when I select "Windows Media Player Engine" Play and Pause no longer work. Ffwd also "acts" differently: Now pressing ( and keeping it pressed) ffwd plays the movie quickly whereas before i could adjust the speed by single clicks.
(Selecting other methods seems to lead to other behavior)

I think this is because it's using the WMP internal controls, so remote commands will function as per WMP standards?

Hmm, I have an MCE v2.0 remote so it should already be quite "standard" in the Microsoft sense.
Has anyone been able to come up with a workaround?

Bump...
JRiver: Is it possible to reconfigure the play and/or pause buttons to somehow allow these functions using the Windows media engine?

I do not see any difference. The implementation in different Playback methods may be different in some areas, but Play/Pause, and FF/REW should behave the same (using keyboard and mouse anyway).

As I said above, I'm seeing this using an MS MCE v2 remote. It's very much repeatable too.
Do you see this behavior when using your oem (HP?) remote which, I presume, is an MCE v2.0 remote?

Try using MC's engine if you can, instead of WMP's.

This looks a lot better. I'll report back when I've properly tried it out, thanks...
