Hi all!
I've made the jump to MC15 from my old version of MC13. Things are going well (for the most part), but playback of ripped DVDs is eluding me. The following issue is rearing its head under Vista...
In version MC13..0.172 I have the following options defined:
Playback->Video->DVD playback Settings...
Video Decoder: 05. Automatic Selection
Audio Decoder: 05. Automatic selection
Video Renderer: Enhanced Video Renderer
DVD Filters: Default DirectSound Device
Enhanced Video Renderer
AC3Filter
NVIDIA Video Decoder
DVD Navigator
In version MC15.0.17 and MC15.0.46 I have the following options set:
Video (DVD Video (ifo,vob)):
Playback Method: Automatic
Audio Decoders: Automatic
Video Decoders: Automatic
Video Renderer: Automatic
Choosing a ripped DVD file (Video_TS.ifo) in MC15 fails with the following error: "An error occurred preparing to play DVD video (error number: 200)"
Changing the video options to using DirectShow filters and choosing the NVIDIA filters installed on the system for both Audio & Video decoders and using the EVR renderer gives the same error...
Ideas?
brad
P.S. In 15.0.46, if you change the playback method for ifo/vob files in the 'File Types' Option sub-pane, the method doesn't stick. If you change it in the 'Video' sub-pane, the method DOES stick....

I'm not sure whether the CCCP filters might help. We'll take a look at what you've reported. Thanks.

Thanks, Jim.
CCCP shouldn't be a factor for me. The latest version (9/9/09) is installed on my system....

Have you tried choosing AC3Filter in v15?
Or how about trying a different video decoder (ffdshow) for example?
Finally, did the solution here help this DVD problem:

Thanks.

Update....
As pointed out above, the solution (for now) is to manually set the Video Decoder to one that MC15 will work with. (http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=57277.0)
For whatever reason, the decoders that functioned (ie, showed up in the graph when playing a DVD with MC13) do NOT appear to work with MC15. I had 5 choices in the "Video Decoder" menu. With MC15, the results are as follows:
Automatic - FAIL
ffdshow Video Decoder - FAIL
MPC - MPEG-2 Video Decoder (Gabest) - SUCCEED
Nero Subpicture Decoder - FAIL
NVIDIA Video Decoder - FAIL
The graph information for the working decoder is as follows:

With MC13, the same decoders are listed (in a different order) and the results are:
01. ffdshow - FAIL
02. NVIDIA - SUCCEED
03. MPC - SUCCEED
04. Nero - FAIL
05. Automatic - SUCCEED
So...thanks for the help in getting MC15 operation with DVDs, but do we have any ideas why "Automatic" or the NVIDIA decoders are failing on MC15?

We do some fancy filter change in order to avoid silent audio when Microsoft DTV-DVD audio decoder is automatically loaded. I wonder if some other filters do not like what we do. Do you use SPDIF? If not, try selecting an audio decoder that is not Microsoft DTV-DVD audio decoder.
Regarding FFDShow video decoder, did you enable its MPEG-2 decoding capability? In particular the checkbox for DVD?

Thanks, Yaobing!
I can report that through PEBCAK, I had ffdshow's MPEG2 decoding disabled. Both MC13 & MC15 work fine with DVD files as long as either libavcodec or libmpeg2 are selected to decode MPEG2. (DVD decoding is also selected, as suggested).
As for the audio side of things, I DO use SPDIF. I don't even appear to have the Microsoft DTV-DVD audio decoder listed as a choice. Things appear to be sounding fine using "Automatic". The filter graph shows AC3Filter activated when playing. Other choices on my system include: ffdshow Audio Decoder, Nero Audio Decoder 2, and NVIDIA Audio Decoder.

OK. Your computer is XP? All I said about Microsoft DTV-DVD audio decoder applies only to Vista and 7.
You can email me a log file so we can figure out why NVDIA decoder does not work. yaobing at jriver dot com
