Title: Library Server: Additional share paths
Post by: Osho on May 25, 2010, 02:02:18 am
In Library Server configuration, under Advanced Server Settings, there is an entry "Additional share paths". I added a number of directories in this path (comma separated). Should I expect to see these directories in my Library Client MC15? If so, where? I can't find them anywhere. Is there another intended usage of this option that sharing a bunch of directories?

Thanks,
Osho

I'll bump this, since I can find no documentation on what this is used for...

By default, Library Server will not serve a file that is not in the library.  This is done for obvious security reasons.

This advanced option allows white-listing certain paths so a client could ask for a file directly off disk that isn't in the library.  This used to be necessary for things like television playback that required files that weren't part of the library, but that is no longer the case.

In my opinion, it would be best to remove this option.

hmmm, so theoretically, I could tell MC to add a link to my server stored documents, then access them from a client without having to see them in the library?

that might be useful.  double-checking a build list or grocery list or something from my phone??

probably a bad security idea, but ?
