Hello,
I'm a newbie with MC15 and I love the program with the exception of YADB. It is woefully inadequate. I understand you're trying to avoid the huge errors present in other online dbs, but I'm sorry, there is no way I can take the time to add to YADB for fully half of the cds I've tried ripping. I strongly recommend that you add the ability to search Gracenote or Allmusic if YADB comes up dry. This is a significant weakness in the program and, in spite of your other strenghts, makes you uncompetitive with iTunes and Windows Media Player.
Please consider adding additional cd databases to you search.
Best Regards,
Jack Tozzi

Thanks. We're happy with YADB.
If you don't find the metadata, please enter it.

Can't remember the last time I had to enter details for a CD.

I've used Tag & Rename my self for years. What ever you use, be sure to update YADB once in a while, so that YADB gets better.

Thank you to MrHaugen: I'm going to give Tag and Rename a try.
To JimH: I understand your position, but this option would only increase sales and customer happiness. Your program is otherwise the class act. From an audiophile standpoint, the directshow also sounds terrific.
BTW, two of the disks that I could not find in your database that I thought should be there were "Elvis-The Complete '68 Comeback Special" the other was Rilling's Bach b-minor Mass. I was very surprised not to find the Elvix and the rilling b-minor is pretty standard rep, I was surprised by it's omission. It's a major undertaking to enter the text for something like the b-minor or the St. Matthew. It's especially painful when you know that at least two other dbs have the complete entry. Not to be a wise ass, but we buy computers and programs like this to minimize our labors.
Those are my two-cents. Otherwise, thank you for an excellent product.

Just a quick addition of another 2c (on this much covered topic)....
Although there is a preference for YADB, it is not the database that I have an issue with per se , it is the limited metadata. There is more out there now then just track name and genre. There is a world of fast changing and expanding data out there and it would be great if MC could help me harness it. (although it is worth mentioning that YADB had a low success rate with my father in-law's music, though that may have more to do with his bad taste and penchant for cheap compilations :) )
For example, I have been playing with MusicBrainz Picard and Lastfm. In this case, Last.fm and the musicbrainz database are correlated and if I know the musicbrainz song ID (from Picard) it can fetch information from the Lastfm api. From this, I can get information that I can't get in YADB (afaik), e.g. mood, similar artists, suggested playlists, alternate groupings, etc. This additional information (I am hoping) will help me re/explore my music and find tracks I have forgotten about.
Although it may be considered the realm of the plugin (or are there licensing issues?), I would really love this type of fetching of metadata from Last.fm and other sites to be a native feature of MC and for it to evolve over time as databases evolve. The lastfm DJ plugin is another good example of what I think should be a native part of MC, a tool that harnesses a big database to deliver music I either don't know or have forgotten.
One of the many reasons I like MC has been that there are very few things that can't be played with it (m4a, mp3, mkv, etc etc). It stays flexible and pragmatic. I would like this same type of freedom with where, when and why I get metadata. I would probably be happy to pay a supplement for a suite of metadata tools that helps me unlock a collection of music.

I have purchased tag and rename and it is working well. I'm also now finding things in YADB that I couldn't find first time around. My success rate is much higher now. One of the things I did was to manually allow my firewall to access the 'net. I didn't see any evidence that the firewall was blocking things but who knows...now it's working much better.
Thanks to all for your input.
