Title: Wrong OS ?
Post by: smOOzz on July 03, 2010, 06:22:44 am
Gave up on 15 some time ago when it would not run properly. Can't remember the details.  Went back to 14.

Tried to DL fresh 15 current version and it says the "Media Center is installed on the wrong OS...Please reinstall"  or similar.
So I reinstalled with the same result.

Windows 7 has been installed for many months.
Have not experienced this problem before.  Any clues please?

Peter

Try uninstalling and reinstalling.  Remove the registry entries during uninstall.

Are you a user with admin privileges?

Are you trying to launch it with object dock?  or a similar application launcher? i was getting that error a while back in windows 7 x64 because of object dock not being able to handle 64bit requests properly. If the answer to the above question is yes, then try to launch program directly.

Seems I might have to wait until I completely reinstall Windows 7 on clean drive.  Some conflict somewhere.  Only ever used W7 on this sys.  Tried to clean out all ref to MC15 in registry, windows32, users/appln data,. etc.      MC14 going OK.

We've never been able to reproduce this, but the registry keys listed in that thread will let you fix it by hand.  Make sure the installer or program are not being run with any compatibility mode flags set -- we fully support Windows 7 and compatibility modes will just cause problems.

Thanks Matt,

The registry keys for 14.165 and 15.070 are the same for the OS....both showing  0x0000000a(10)    and the Compatibility factor has never been used.

I'll be repairing W7 or reinstalling soon and I expect that will solve whatever is causing the problem.

Just as an update...tried to repair Windows 7 with no better result with MC15.  Eventually reformatted drive and reinstalled W7 and MC15 is all go go again.
