Title: Update some tags - best way?
Post by: MarkGrigsby on July 03, 2010, 12:59:28 pm
When I first started using MC, I didn't check the 'update tags' option, as I didn't want MC touching my files all the time.  For a long time now I've seen the benefits of leavng this checked (e.g. when exporting the files to iTunes to sync to the iPhone), but still there are some files which MC's auto-updating routines haven't corrected.  i.e. I have some MP3 files which don't have the right data in their tag.

I realise I could fix this with a 'select all' followed by 'update tags', but this would update the last-modified date on all my files and make my next incremental media backup pretty painful.

Is there any way to ask MC to check files for 'tag consistency' and update only if needed?  Or perhaps a way to define a view that shows only files whose Genre tag in the DB doesn't match the Genre tag in the file (since I always use a custom list of Genres)?

Thanks in advance for any tips!

** EDIT - I figured it out.  Use the Tag() expression.  **

..then you are not a rookie  ;)

a little side note..i think that if you update the tags from MC, only files the differs get updated..but you have to doublecheck that
