I have Win7, MC14.165, and the J River Remote Control, which works fine on my local install, but I recently made a portable install and when I go to Options, Remote Control, Devices & Options, Select Input Devices, there are none available. Usually there's a list. Why is this?
-
Sorry, but the remote control engine requires the Media Center service that runs when the program runs, and thus requires a full installation.
-
I still wish there was a way around this....
-
Me too. Cuz I LOVE the portable install to my portable 1TB hard drive, so I can take it between home and car and office, etc. but at home I enjoy my customized Media Center Remote, which is now rendered useless. Since I paid for a remote and MC14, can anyone from JRiver advise me on whether a workaround or solution at least WILL be coming in the future? I can't use the remote I paid for.
I understand I can use it with a full install, but it defeats the purpose of a portable install if I have to sync the library each time I come home with a full install in order to use the remote.
-
Also, why do my MUTE, VOL UP and VOL DOWN buttons on my laptop not work when I'm in MC14 portable, and I have to minimize the window to go into another program in order for them to work. In MC14 full install they work fine, why would portable disable them?

Right click on the speaker icon in the upper right corner, and switch playback among internal, system, and application. One may work.

Thanks jim, and what about the remote control issue that this thread is about?
-
I think Matt said it won't work on a portable installation.
-
Yes he did, then I asked if there are any plans to add that functionality, otherwise I'm not sure why I bought this Media Center Remote, since it doesn't work on a portable install.
Again, are there any plans to add this functionality to a portable install?

I apologize, because I misspoke slightly. IR blasting and IR learning require a Windows service. This is a Windows thing, not a JRiver thing (it was a fair chunk of work for us to write a service and do inter-process communication).
However, IR receiving with the Green button, etc. should work fine with a portable install. It looks like there was just a bug.
This will be changed in a coming build of Media Center 15. Thanks.
