Title: Fallback to resampling without message box
Post by: leoric on August 05, 2010, 07:58:24 am
First of all, my MC environment: Win7, WASAPI exclusive, HDMI audio connection nVidia->Denon.

I have different sources besides usual 44.1 kHz/16 bit/2 ch. - 22/16/2, 48/16/2, 96/24/2, 88/24/2, 88/24/6,... Denon should support all of them but nVidia HDMI audio driver allows only 44, 48, 96, 192 kHz output. Also 96/24/6 is not possible (BTW can somebody tell me why?) I want to avoid seeing message "Unable to play ... because output format is not supported blah-blah ..." because this stops playback until I press OK.

I don't want to use DSP Studio feature that allows resampling because this will require changing it's settings for each source. Sure, it is possible to playback all sources in 48/16 using same DSP Studio settings, but this will degrade some sources.

I see two options how to solve this: 1 - just fallback to resampling with some alternate predefined format instead of displaying blocking message box (maybe show somewhere somehow that playback performed with alternate settings); 2 - add more flexibility to DSP Studio, may be allow linking zones with source format. Option 1 seems to be easy to implement and universally. But option 2 also will be useful even if option 1 implemented.

One more quest: has anyone tried HDMI audio output with Core i3?  Does it also allow only 44, 48, 96, 192?

Option 1 is available in recent builds of MC15.

Great, but what you mean by recent? >87?

It's been there for about a month.  Click on the attached picture.

No, this is not what I meant as option 1. This is some kind of option 2 but it is not satisfactory because it will degrade 96k and 192k sources. Also it doesn't solve issue with 96/24/6 sources.
I referer to this option in original message: "Sure, it is possible to playback all sources in 48/16 using same DSP Studio settings, but this will degrade some sources."

Look at the line below the blue line.  That option only converts if the content is greater than 96KHz.

With this option it still hangs on 88k sources.
