Title: Gapless glitch with MP3 when resampling
Post by: Frobozz on August 16, 2010, 09:07:14 am
I'm getting a slight glitch in gapless MP3 playback when the Output Format resampler is enabled.  The glitch goes away if I do FLAC.  So it's an MP3 thing.

Is this a known problem?  Can MC do gapless with MP3 when the resampler is enabled?

Here's my setup:
Output Format set to resample all sources to 96000 Hz
ASIO playback (I have an M-Audio FireWire 410 which has a proper ASIO driver)
MP3 files are encoded with LAME using -V0 or -V1 or -V2
I'm using Media Center 15.0.80
I haven't tried any formats other than FLAC and MP3

If I disable the resampling I get proper gapless playback (no glitch)
If I enable the resampling to 96000 I get the glitch

Would you be able to email me the two MP3 files you're testing with?  I'm matt at jriver dot com.

Scratch that.  I can see the problem with resampling enabled.  I'll follow-up later once I know more.

Thanks.

This will be fixed in a coming build.

We were doing footer block removal (the junk you have to skip to get gapless playback with MP3) after resampling.  We have changed to putting the header and footer block removal in the actual MP3 decoder instead, which guarantees perfect block accuracy.

Look for build 97 (or newer) sometime later this week:
Fixed: MP3 gapless playback would not work perfectly with resampling enabled.

Thanks.

You're fast!

MC still has the best gapless playback support of any player.  :)

I was listening to Roger Waters, The Wall Live In Berlin.  It's always the Pink Floyd that makes gapless so necessary.

Thanks
