Title: MC's new home pages and new home
Post by: JimH on August 24, 2010, 05:13:32 pm
We've been working on a totally new home page:

www.jrmediacenter.com

Click on the image and you will be redirected to our new pages at www.jriver.com .

Your old links at www.jrmediacenter.com will need to be updated soon.

Ooh.  I'm quite curious.

I am sorry, but I don't understand.

You posted about two hours ago. I don't know how long the shoes have been online, but shouldn't uploading the new content take a minute or so? Why did you take the old site down if the new site wasn't ready?

Is the design at http://www.jriver.com/ going to be the new design? The font sizes seems to be rather big. It would look more elegant if the font sizes and line spacing would be smaller. Also the animated main picture is too dominant to my taste.

For example, I like this design a lot: http://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/soundforge
It looks convincing and the initial page provides easily understandable basic info about the main features. The links open pages that provide more detailed info and the technical specifications for those who really understand audio editors.

Alex,
I'm sorry if it's cryptic.  We're moving from jrmediacenter.com to jriver.com.  It's a branding change.

The new site still has a lot of rough edges.  We'll make them right tomorrow.

Now you're getting somewhere!!! :-)

I think this is looking nice.  Two suggestions: 1) Move the ICE.TCP stuff to another area (eg. More Products). It doesn't fit with the other content.  2) Lose the Bus picture.  It feels depressing, and is too emotionally heavy for advertisement content.

Much more dynamic and better info than the old page, however for my liking there is way too much white everywhere.

Here is an example of a page that uses an animated main picture: http://www.topazlabs.com/denoise/ (or the Topaz main page at http://www.topazlabs.com that shows more than one software product). The pictures serve their purpose fine without being very large or otherwise overly dominant.

If the shoe picture or anything similar is going to stay at www.jrmediacenter.com you really need to add a clear link button or some other visual hint that indicates the link. The link is not obvious.

Maybe you are going to make it redirect automatically. However, a huge number of links and search engines point to jrmediacenter.com and it might be advantageous to use the page as a quick advertisement and show some product & company info before redirecting the visitor.

EDIT

For example, here is a Google search that shows page previews: http://www.google.com/search?q=J.+River+Media+Center&tbs=prv:1&prmd=fdl&source=lnt&sa=X&ei=-BR1TIj5J8iVswa0m_maBg&ved=0CA8QpwU)

You can stop the animation by clicking on the next or last arrows.

Thanks for the feedback, everyone.

The wiki now has the new style pages.  Image attached.

You may need to manually change the skin to "JRiver" under preferences on the wiki page.

www.jrmediacenter.com

click the left shoe...   ;D

It's better now, but the image file is quite big in pixels (1279x853) and kilobytes (286 KB). On a slower connection and small screen that isn't nice.

I created an optimized smaller version (960x640, 53 KB, interlaced). It is attached. Feel free to use it if you find it suitable.
