I'm using a portable install (been on the road for a while now :-\) and need to rearrange my files on my portable drive, however I can't seem to make it work.
When I go to rename or use find and replace to move all my media, it's failing. Initially it crashed out altogether after trying to begin the move process (53K files though, so I may have been a bit ambitious first up ;D)
I backed off and tried doing a single file, and managed to get it to work via the following process:
1. Rename all files from (Install Drive):\xyz\123\.... to F:\xyz\123\.....
2. Rename files as I want (e.g. f:\Media\xyz\123\....)
3. Rename file to use the (Install Drive) volume. This throws a message (below) to which I click "No", but it does work.

So is this a bug? Am I missing something in my understanding on how to go about this..?
Cheers,

portable MC is only half baked regarding (if i may say so) filenames, some stuff works some not, for example thumbnails is not picked up if the path is (Install Drive):\ since field [image file] only works for "real paths" with letters...(thumbnails will also get destroyed if the usb is hooked up on an different drive letter next time)
and i guess it's the same here confishy, the solution is to substitute the path to an other letter
what you also can do (the fastest way for you)
move the folder manually via explorer - then go into library Tools -> Rename, Move, and copy files..
Choose Update database to point to new location (no filerename move or copy) then use Find & Replace
Find What:(Install Drive):\xyz
Replace With:(Install Drive):\Media\xyz
..or similair
remember to have Fix broken Links set to NO, and of course first backup then try a few..before all 53K
i would be really pleased if "(Install Drive):" used in portable installation would get some attention
thanks

Thanks for the reply Lasse Lus, so it seems like a bug then. *Matt!*
Unfortunately, the complexity of how files are currently stored means moving them externally is more trouble than it's worth, so I'll stick with my method for the time being. Thanks for the option anyway.

Now everyone's back from holidays *bump*
(I realise this is probably low priority though ;) )
