Title: Small thumbnail shows, but large may not :(

Can anyone suggest why I often find "Image (large thumbnail)" failing to show the content, even though "Image (small thumbnail)" is fine e.g.

"Large Thumbnails" are only displayed when grouping is applied to the list.

That's a shame. They are equally needed without grouping. E.g. when I find the small thumbnail too small to read.
