Title: iTunes update destroyed deep directory structure

Has anybody noticed that the recent itunes update destroyed the underlying folder structure I worked for years on? What arrogance and recklessness!

I have the latest version of iTunes and see no issue. My folder structure has not been touched. Please describe the details of what you experienced.

All what I can say is that they moved almost everything from my folder structure to the root folder. I just accepted the update option that showed up. I did not do anything. It happened on 9-7-10. Yesterday Media Center could not find anything anymore. To create a meaningful structure for 40,000 songs is not a picnic, I have a mirror disk but did not expect such an act of violence from Apple. I am still devastated since it will take weeks to get it back where it was. Btw, I never consolidated within iTunes.

A lot of media players offers this ‘service’.
They will rearrange all files mostly according to a structure like Artist > albums > songs
In some cases you can disable it…

I just updated iTunes 9.2 to the latest.

The update didn't change the "Keep iTunes media folder organized" setting (I keep it disabled). I have only a few "already organized" test files in my iTunes media library so I don't know if it would have moved my audio files even though the setting was disabled.

Unfortunately, I had forgotten that I recently removed all other files from the iTunes library, otherwise I would have imported some albums before updating (to test the behavior).

I may test this again on another PC, but I'd be surprised if it would move my files.
