I split this post from another thread.  To start a new thread, you can use "New topic" on the upper right.

MC 15 works fine on Win 64.  Did you try a reboot?  Or a reinstall?

Of course. I always login as administrator, I am the only user on my laptop. In addition by right clicking on the mouse it comes the option of of "run as administrator"

I'm not familiar with this message.

Could you email a screenshot (Alt+PrtScn) of the message to matt at jriver dot com?

Thanks.

I figured I'd document what we've learned.

1) His copy of Windows reports that the manifest XML embedded in the program is corrupt.  This points to a bad install or computer problem, since this is not an issue others are having.

2) I sent a copy of a basic programming tool to help diagnose the problem, and his computer (or Kapersky) wouldn't allow it to run either.

At this point, it seems like something on the system is corrupting data or preventing programs from running.

I have two Vaio laptops (different models) with Windows 7 64 bit and they both have the same problem.

Are you running Kapersky on them also?

I'd guess antivirus, malware, or bad RAM.  Probably in that order.

Yes, Kaspersky on both machines.

I did a check on both machines about malware with microsoft team and nothing came out. The machines are few months old and had not have any other problem so I do not think RAM has anything to do either.

Yes, Kaspersky on both machines.

Kaspersky is known to cause problems with Adobe Creative Suite and other Adobe installs, particularly downloadable digital editions.  Also, there were some well documented problems with older versions of Kaspersky on Windows 7, especially 64-bit versions.  Kaspersky 2009 is not compatible with Win7 at all, and 2010 is compatible, but there were lots of problems early on.  If you don't have the latest versions of the AV software, it would be best to make sure to update it (not just the definitions, but the application itself), or move to Kaspersky 2011.

I'd actually recommend a different product, but to each their own...

It is also possible that something is stuck in the Windows Installer.  Major Geeks still hosts the old Microsoft Windows Installer Cleanup Utility here: http://majorgeeks.com/Windows_Installer_CleanUp_Utility_d4459.html

It can sometimes help fix broken installs, though I don't know if MC uses the Windows Installer functionality so it isn't clear if this is relevant to these problems.  Also, Microsoft pulled support for that utility because it can cause damage if used incorrectly, and it is known to cause problems with Office 2007 in some cases.

Disable or uninstall Kapersky, just to test.

By just disablleing Kaspersky it runs MC 15 without reinstallation.
If I activate Kaspersky then MC 15 stops working,
I need time to figure out.
Thanks to everybody, now I can listen good music !

You might report the problem to Kaspersky.

Not me.
They will reply that MC14 worked fine with Kaspersky and you should go back to an update to bring back MC 15 to work with them.

They have been good in the past.  It's their problem.  Please report it to them.

Just to confirm... I've dealt with this myself.  They will respond much better to a customer than some random developer blaming them.  That's why they're suggesting that you to report it.

Ok.
I will tell them that thier antivirus or firewall does not let MC 15 work and that I do not see where their application authorization is. McAffe and Norton have a process to specific application get thru. I am sure other users of MC 15 have the same problem.
