It's an AAC stream. This topic (http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=59314.msg400805#msg400805) should help.

I couldn't get any of those servers to respond to Media Center or WMP.
Perhaps they're old links?

They all work for me in MC. They're all AAC—no additional plugins are required.
The third URL actually produced the error when entered in MC. So I used the link directly (in Firefox) and was directed to the "SHOUTcast Administrator." From there, I could get the correct stream URL, or go the station's website and get it directly (for all these stations, they're provided as listen.pls files). The URL I got this way was the same, but with a different port number.

I seem to be having the same issue playing an AAC stream. Gives me a "media file type is not recognized" error. Normal AAC, and M4A files play fine with the haali filter, but streams don't work.
Stream in question http://www.bassdrive.com/v2/streams/BassDrive3.pls
Should mention it works fine in other players.
-
Have you installed the plugin?
-
MC doesn't support AAC streamed playback natively? Rather odd since the freeware players play it fine, and I haven't come across any format issues with MC until this one.
It works after the installation of the plugin. Missed reading that post, heh. Ty.

This was what I was aiming for, everything working without any additional plugins. Since it works on your system, wonder why it doesn't work on mine. Could it be a codec setup thing?

I suppose you already realized this, but...It seems you took my comment out of context. I had previously recommended the Orban AAC/aacPlus Player Plugin. I was advising cattani he did not require any additional plugins to handle the sites he mentioned.

Apparently, you're not doing video yet. There's nothing odd about this. It would be odd for JRiver to be wasting resources on such things when perfectly good, free alternatives are available.

Lol nah, just a bit of miscomprehension is all. But yes. :)

Well, MC is the most feature packed library based player I've come across and in all my years in using it I've never had ANY issue with it and couldn't be happier with the new functions introduced with the latest version. It just puzzled me why I needed that third party plugin to stream AAC files when winamp/foobar supports it straight out of the box. Don't get me wrong, I hold MC in the highest regard in terms of features and functionality, and even converted a few of my iTunes using friends to MC. Just seemed rather odd that there was this one little issue MC15 couldn't handle when it already does everything else and more so much better then anything out there.

Do you mean web streams with AAC audio?
In anycase, thanks for your help and the replies.
Cheers

No. I mean audio standards are reasonably well-established, and JRiver has been in the game for a long time. I imagine there was a time when it had to support some audio formats natively because alternatives were nonexistent or unreliable. The landscape is quite different for video. MC doesn't attempt to handle all the evolving standards, nor should it. By allowing use of the Windows DirectShow system, MC is able to deliver video playback quality that surpasses—or isn't even available in—players that attempt to do everything themselves.
