I have had a problem for some time, in that I regularly get a lag of a few seconds when clicking on a song, or updating tags, or basically doing anything. I will have a few seconds where everything works fine, but then a lag and back to normal, then a lag etc etc.
I use a ReadyNAS duo, with 2 x 1Tb Hitachi discs in Raid mode. Network is connected through a gigabyte switch.
Don't understand why this is happening, and am getting really frustrated. Noted that this problem occurred in earlier versions too.
Help please!

Maybe a disk is spun down. Or a virus checker is taking some time to examine the file.
-
Makes no difference as to whether I am reading from NAS at any time. My anti-virus if off makes no difference, I have cleared library and moved 300 files to PC hard drive, imported those to MC, tried to tag or listen and get the lag same problem, tried to do same with Windows media player no problems.

You can turn on logging under MC Help.
Turn off podcasting, auto import etc. Disable all third party plug-ins.
Take a look at the link called "Weird Problems" in my signature.
Look for any drives you've mounted that are no longer in use.
Unplug all peripherals to test.

Turning off auto-import and pod-casting has really helped thanks, but how to disable third party plug ins?
-
Lag is a problem that there is little help for. Is it just me or are there others?
-
Did you look carefully through the weird problems thread?
The way to find the problem is to eliminate the possibilities. Drive, network, etc.
If it still happens with local files and disconnected from the network, then it is likely to be another program like a virus checker.
Switch machines to test. Does the problem go away or not? Each of these tests may tell you something.
Run some tests on the hardware itself.
If you'll keep trying things, other people here will help.
