Title: HD Audio
Post by: stevenf on December 30, 2010, 01:56:37 pm
Hi

Within the next 6 months i intend to purchase a top spec notebook and need to know how good hi def audio, when compared to current sound cards on the market for desktops. If there is a really good sound card for a laptop, what are the options?

Thanks

Stevenf

I'm looking for a sound that is comparable to the soundblaster audigy sound card in my desktop PC

Look at the soundblaster x-fi stuff.  Even the cheap one I use should match an original audigy.

But you know you could get better sound than this with an external DAC, right?

I use the DAC in my Marantz.

I would suggest a decent async USB-to-Spdif converter.  Hiface, EVO, Halide Bridge etc....
Weiss makes some nice Firewire models that get rave reviews.
M-Audio makes some cheap ones that are good for Redbook but seem to fall apart on hires.
