Title: BSOD on Win7
Post by: iPanini on January 01, 2011, 02:01:56 pm
Hi,

I've suffered a couple of BSOD's on my new Win7 install.
How can we 'restart' MC15?
- as a server
- as MC15
- as both the above

I've noticed 2 services running:
Media Center 15 Service
Media Center Extender Service

Starting / stopping these services won't make the server icon go away in the tasktray.

Thanks for your help,

Erwin

A blue screen is generally a hardware (driver) problem.

Don't stop the services.  One only runs when MC is running.

Right click on "Media Server" in the lower right corner of the Windows screen and choose "close" if you wish.

Jim,

Thanks for replying.
To ease up on things, I've disbled starting at windows startup for now. I'll switch it back on soon, when I can afford to digg around for the culprit.
I've enabled logging and had a look. Any way to enable logging with a date/time stamp?

I'm running a system with twin ATI video cards, one onboard and an add-on. I've had a hell of a time to get them configured more or less properly. I'm running a 3 monitor system + a HD LCD. Purpose is to use the HD LCD specifically for watching video. To avoid windows to involuntarily put windows on a switched off LCD, I disable it in screen resolution.
I have a strong hunch it's the video situation that causes the BSOD's in conjunction with MC15. Most of the time I tried to do some drag'n dropping.

Any specific thing I can do to monitor this?

Also, how does the "Output debug strings" thing work? I've downloaded and installed the Debug viewer.

Thanks for helping out,

Erwin

PS. What's the secret to post screenshots on the forum?

Modify your post and choose "Additional Options".

There is no way to modify the logs.

I did read recently that some people were getting BSOD issues with ATI drivers being the cause.

Sorry but I can't rememebr where I saw the postings though.
