Title: Smartlist - shuffle or randomise
Post by: Ilmar on June 11, 2002, 02:33:02 pm
Hi

Is it possible to make a smartlist which will always playback at random as a property, without having to set MJ to shuffle each time?

I think I might be getting confused between smartlists, playlists and Media View. If anyone can help me [without sending me to JimH's legendary Licensing FAQ hehe], I would be forever grateful .

Media Jukebox always sorts a list of files using whatever sorting rules you specify.

So, you can make a smartlist of random tracks with the ~n= stuff, but you can't make a specific set of tracks shuffle without turning on shuffle mode.

Hope that makes sense...

This is what I use:

You can make a smartlist like this, where the playlist id is for a playlist group or another playlist

~n=500  playlistid==735207988

or variation of this scheme

~n=300   type=[mp3]

These playlist will select a random subset of the other classifier each time they are played

I think I get it, but I would have to be more awake before I experiment with it...

Thanks, I will give it a try

Hi

>> ~n=100 playlistid==735207988

This gets intersting results! If you have say 20 albums (400 tracks) in the playlist, the selection will not be a random pick of all tracks, but seems to select randomly a set number of tracks from each album (presumably in proportion to the number of tracks in each album)in the playlist and in order!!

Note: my Media windows sorts by album then track!

Not quite what I was looking for, but effective (in a sense).

So it is like starting at one end of the sweet trolley and sampling each dessert in turn, using different sized spoons!

Hey! I could have some fun with this analogy!!
