Title: Import .rar & .zip files?

Is there a way to add data-type files to the import list?  I would like to manage a bunch of .zip, .rar, .gz files within MC.

I'm not sure, but take a look here:
C:\Program Files\J River\Media Center 15\Data\Default Resources\FileAssociations.xml

You will probably have to save it in a Custom Resources directory so that it isn't overwritten by a new install.
