When I try to rip a CD with MC16, very often the first track is skipped, so at the end of the ripping session I have to uncheck all the tracks but the first one and re-start a new ripping session.
This never happened with MC15.

Which build of MC?
What are you encoding to? FLAC?
-
MC16.0.36 and the conversion is to APE.

MC16.0.36 and the conversion is to APE.
Please try MC16.0.39 from the top of this board.
-
Done. With MC160039 it is still the same !
The ripping always starts from track 2.
-
Are you using MC's APE encoder?
-
I did some tests.
This happens with both the settings APE and Flac.
Always the ripping starts from track 2.
-
I had not yet tried ripping with MC16, but I did it now. I ripped two discs in APE format. All tracks were ripped correctly. MC 16.0.39.
I have no idea what could cause your problem. I wonder if a setting was incorrectly copied when MC16 restored the MC 15 settings. Though, I don't think MC has a setting that stores something like "start ripping from the track two".
Does the secure rip log note the incidence? You could also enable general logging in Help > Logging... (do it just before ripping to make a small log file) and inspect the log after ripping.
Do you have another PC (or drive) that you can try?
-
Thanks for your answer.
it is very strange indeed.
I installed the MC160039 on a second PC, with a different OS (XP) and another CD driver, but the problem is still there:
with this Pc too, the track n.1 is skipped when the ripping action starts.
I think it is not related with the kind of compression used, as it rips the track 2 at the very beginning of the action.
If I rip the same cd again, this time it starts from 1.
But with a new CD starts again from 2.
With MC15 this problem doesn't happen on both the PC's.
Here the secure rip log :

Does it only happen with certain CDs? What if you try a common pop music CD?
I'm wondering if there's something particular about the TOC of the disc you're ripping.
Thanks.
-
This happens with ALL the Cd's.
I've ripped about 40 CDs since when I've installed MC16 and all have this problem.
So I don't think to be a TOC problem as the track n.1 is correctly identified with all the tags on the details screen showing the ripping progress.
Simply it is skipped.
Here other logs with pop music too:

I forgot to say that I've ripped aeound 3.000 CDs with MC15 without this problem.
-
Could you send a log file to johnt at jriver dot com?
Go to Help / Logging and enable "Output to a log file", check-mark all event types, click Ok. Start up your CD rip. When complete, open the logging dialog and select "Click to email log".
Thanks.
-
are the Cds 'real' factory pressings or burned/copied from another program?
-
They are Factory pressings, not copies.
-
I can certainly reproduce this under one condition: the search area has "-[Track #]=1" entered, which could be hidden if the wizard was used.
[ Edit: I've done numerous rips to FLAC in various versions of MC16. No issues noted here. ]
-
Nice repro, but it seems unlikely to be the cause. sgucci99?
-
Maybe there is some particular sequence of steps that leads to this problem. Could you follow these steps exactly and send me a log file afterward? Then I'll follow the exact same steps here and see if I can reproduce it.
1. Make sure logging is enabled, have the CD drive empty, close Media Center
2. start Media Center and insert the CD
3. click on "Rip Disc" in the lower left action window
4. click the "Rip" button
5. when ripping is complete, send me the log file
Also let me know what format you are encoding to, and it would be great if you could add a screen dump of your rip options screen like below, or just provide your settings for "enable auto-rip", "analyze audio", "encode concurrently...", "max encode processes", and the auto play options.
Thanks!

Dear John,
First of all, thanks for your patience.
In the meantime I did some experiments and I found (probabily) in which case the problem happens.
It is not easy to replicate, because if you insert a CD previously seen from MC16, even if completely deleted, it works correctly; so you should have a lot of unread CD's available for the test.
It looks like the problem occurs if the initial pop up windows asking for the action to take, doesn't show up.
If you follow the procedure by inserting a new Cd, clicking the rip button on the pop up window, MC works correctly.
If you force MC to skip this window, i.e. by starting MC having the Cd already on the drive, and then selecting "rip" from the action window, (the one on the bottom left), then it starts from the second track.
Why I don't have the pop up window ?
Because I have installed MC (only) on a PC exclusively dedicated to music, close to the HiFi equipment, and I control it through another PC, both connected via WiFi, in a more confortable location.
In this way, when a new CD is inserted, I don't know why, the pop up window doesn't show up on the remote PC.
But, with MC 15, everything was correctly working in the same configuration.
Except for this light inconvenience, I consider MC one of the best and most complete configurable program on the market.

hye everybody,
I have had the same ripping issue : there were no possibility to rip a new cd on Flac, but it worked very well with windows media encoder selected.
I tried various options too, including changing drive copy mode.
I may have found the solution, but I can't explain why this isn't working properly. it's about the option of the Flac encoder. It has worked again when I unchecked "us ogg as transport layer".
May you can try this solution, it could help JRiver's team.
By the way, this media center is still wondefull, now :D!
-
This will be fixed in 16.0.51 and later.
Sorry for the trouble.
-
I should add that a workaround is to first view the CD under Drives & Devices in the tree.
Then when you pick 'Rip Disc' in the Action Window, it will include all the files.
-
Another workaround is to start ripping normally, and immediately after, click on the close button.
Then start the rip again and this second time, it starts from track n.1.
