Title: Anyone using Doof's Lyrics Editor with MC16 & Windows 7?
Post by: Magic_Randy on March 04, 2011, 05:49:54 pm
I can make it work but when I change and save the options, I get an error. I can close the error window and continue, but every time I start up Lyrics Editor I have to repeat setting all my options.

What are the permissions of that file?

It seems foretelling that Lyrics Editor is trying to find it in the 64-bit directory vs. Program Files (x86), which leads me to believe it is not 64-bit aware.

Looks like no special permissions. And my PC and Windows 7 is 32-bit.

Sorry, I thought I read 64-bit.

The problem is that Apps can't write into the Program Files area in Win 7.  Doof's app needs to be updated to write prefs into a users AppData area.  I see it was last update in 2006!

By the way, you'd want to look at the permissions of the folders containing alwayscaps.txt (i.e. Program Files).

The folder is marked as read only. I can change it, but when I look again at permissions it is again marked read only.

I believe Windows monitors permissions on these special folders, and changes them back.  It is keeping you safe. :-)
