i'm looking for a player that will do hardware acceleration on Netflix movies. Silverlight won't have it til mid year I read.
thanks,
shiraz
(user since Media Jukebox 6, I believe)

MC uses what Netflix uses, which is Silverlight. We don't have a choice.
MJ6 was a long long time ago. I had hair then. Thanks.

Does Netflix offer 1080p streams? If not, then it really shouldn't matter unless you have really underpowered hardware.
-
thanks Jim, that's what I thought.
I read that MS will be updating Silverlight to use video hardware acceleration in mid-summer 2011.
indeed, my media PC *is* way underpowered. it's a 1.6 Pentium Mobile processor. It's a low-draw, quiet, and Shuffle-sized, so it makes a great media PC after I managed to find the *only* AGP 4X (OLD school) graphics card that has hardware acceleration on it. I can play high def movies on the old thing with hardly any CPU use. Saved some landfill and some money. But as soon as I try to play anything even as high as 720p without the acceleration, ie. Netflix, it chokes. I'll wait til summer for that.

The machine you have is doomed to get hiccups with certain software soon I think. Go for a ASRock box sooner than later. They rock :) They do cost a bit, but it's a darn good investment. And it's small, quiet etc. Read more about it here: http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=61801.0 (http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=61801.0)
