Title: Importing Music

Hi, I am having trouble importing music from a portable hard drive, when it is connected upstairs and I am adding  the music to the hard drive. When I take the hard drive downstairs and connect it to the computer it won't import the music. Both computers are running Windows 7 and also Media Center 15.
 Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.
