It looks like my old IPod video has had it's day so it's time to buy a new portable.
I want a large capacity and flash based players aren't quite there yet so it looks like the choices are a 160G Ipod classic or Cowon X7.
I've only read good things about the Cowon but it is slightly more expensive and also seems quite big.
What's your opinions?

I have/had an ipod classic and now have an X7 and the X7 cannot be beat for sound quality, which fundamentally is the only thing that matters.

I like this one for a 7" tablet

In the 10" space there is the Viewsonic gTab comes in at half the price of a Samsung Galaxy or a Moto Xoom. Might be worth a look there too.
If you're in the mood to wait the lower-cost Archos/Arnova models should be out in a few weeks and the Archos Gen9 machines should be out a few weeks after that.

I did end up getting the Cowon and like Jayson say's it does sound great but it's packed in already.
I'm just boxing it up to send it back.

Craig--why did you box it up and send it back? Did you get it to sync using MC?
Just wondering, as I'm looking at one of these. Thanks.

John,
There seems to be a problem whereby if you let the battery go completely flat it can't recover.
I did get a replacement and it syncs fine with MC although I've not managed to get playlists to work.

Same problem here. Got myself a Cowon X7. Tried a few settings but no working playlist yet. Any more ideas.
Matt, can you help .....

Cowon has much better DSP chip then the ipods!! they have fantastic DSP chips.

But no working playlists yet ..

But no working playlists yet ..
you can use amok playlist copy-->copy to number serially option...
make sure you make a folder for the new playlist to keep it clean!

I do this with my SD cards for my rockboxed fuze and it works like that for my phone too.
I do use dBPowerAMP to then select all the files in the new folder, right click on the files, edit ID tag, rename the album to the folder name, and I have virtual albums!
This will even work for players that don't support playlists or navigating by folders!
