Title: Video Playing at Variable Speed

Hi!

I'm finding that MC16.0.049 has an anomaly playing video files (on my system, at least). Often a video will start playing faster or slower than what it should and then, after a few seconds, settle into normal speed. It can also happen during a video but, more often than not, it's when the video starts.

Let me know if I can be of further assistance resolving this issue

I encountered that too until I enabled WASAPI - Event Style.
Try the following combined settings and see if your problem resolves:

Tools > Options > Audio > Audio Output mode: WASAPI - Event Style
Tools > Options > Video > Audio for Video, DVD, & Television > Playback device: Same as device used in audio playback

(with my hardware WASAPI did not relieve the stuttering, it required WASAPI - Event Style)

Thanks for the suggestion.

I tried it out but, unfortunately, it hasn't resolved the problem.

Have the authors of MC come across this problem?

Same for me. Could solve it by unchecking
Tools -> Options... -> Video -> VideoClock (smooth video by adjusting audio)

I'm wondering why unchecking helped for me. With this option checked, a mkv-Video for me played as you described and audio stuttered as well.

As StFeder asked, are you using the new VideoClock feature (Options > Video)?

With VideoClock enabled, audio is adjusted to maintain sync with the video.  When you first start a video, the latency of your soundcard could cause there to be a large adjustment necessary.  This causes the audio to speed up or slow down until sync is achieved, normally a second or two later.  If you use a smaller buffer size for your audio ouput (Options > Audio), it will reduce this.

Hey guys,

I turned the VideoClock option off and it appears to have resolved the issue.
I'll keep an eye on it and try Matt's suggestions if the problem reoccurs.

A coming build of Media Center 16 will include this change:
Changed: With VideoClock enabled, starting or seeking a video locks sync by adjusting the video rate before starting audio adjustments (takes about one second).

This means after a seek you might see the video pause or skip a little.  This should be less distracting than a large change in the rate of the audio.

I have judder on a panning movie.

could not see Tools > Options > Audio > Audio Output mode: WASAPI - Event Style

Unticked video clock to test for now.
