Message from EMusic in response to Q. about slowdown in new postings:

"Thank you for writing to EMusic.

We have not yet completed the work on
our site, but expect to finish within the
next two weeks. After we complete that
project, we do plan on making additions
to several different genres.

We suggest that you email us if, over the
next few weeks, you still do not see an
increase in our jazz listings.  We will be
better able to evaluate your feedback at
that time."

JimH,

Any place us mortals can read about these changes?  I'm interested in knowing if the will for sure be going to 160 or 192 k/bps bitrate MP3s.

I don't know anywhere you gods can read about it.  I have only heard things second hand that emusic people told other people here.

They first went through the transition of being acquired by Vivendi Universal.  Now they are physically moving from San Francisco to San Diego to be located with MP3.com.  And they are modifying their server technology.  So they have had a lot of changes.

I do not know about the future of EMusic
But looks like the mp3 128 kps is the 'standart' and his here to stay
Like you i would like very much a 192kps option.But.........

I do not forget that most of the people are with a moden 56kps phone connection

I think it is a bit overreacting to see 128 as a bad or average quality
I would rather have anything on MP3PRO 80kbp
For storagereasons asswell!
But 128 is OK
192 would take too much space, and that costs more money!
By the way why is there no MP3PRO encoder in Media Jukebox?

mp3-pro decoder or encoder cost money .And not small money
Beside this mp3pro is the worst format on hearth.Even Windows format is better...
If Emusic one day gives only mp3pro format,i will stop to pay for it

Yes I agree with Zev. If they use mp3pro, I will cancel subscription too.

You know Nero software now is offering a trial version of mp3pro. I ripped songs at 96kbps as the mp3pro claimed proudly. When done and I listened to the ripped music, I heard some "zhip zhip" sound and bubble sound.

And Nero only allowed me to rip 12 tracks using mp3pro. And it won't offer me any other encoder. I hate the new Nero. So I have turned to my older Nero.
