Title: NEXII plugin?
Post by: PAUL on June 05, 2002, 03:50:34 pm
Is there a way I can reduce the bitrate when I copy files from my computer to my NEX II mp3 player?

I doubt there is.
I was thinking the same thing when burning mp3 cd's so that I could reduce them all from 192kb/s to 128 so I could fit tons more songs onto each cd but then I thought about it and realised what a hugely slow and processor intensive process it is to encode mp3's and so realised it wasn't really too practical a feature.

Paul,
I think it's possible to convert when you download.  Steve will probably tell you tomorrow.  If you want to work on it tonight, explore the options on the plugin.

Hi Paul,

No problem with bitrate conversion (even format conversion) from MJ8 to your NEXII.

When you are in the handheld windows there's an option to handle the conversion.
You shall then choose an encoder and a bitrate and the conversion will occur before downloading
to your NEXII.
I do it quite often before my Sunday morning jogging converting from APE or MPC to
WMA 96kps or MP3 128kbps and it works fine.

Have a good day

Cmagic,

Thanks for replying.

Nila,

Conversion is not available on the fly when burning to a data CD.

Ekika,

No Plug-in is necessary for the NEX II. Once you have your NEXII connected it will appear as a drive letter under "CD, DVD & Handhelds" in v. 8. If it does not, go to "My Computer" and make sure it appears there. If it does not, you need to get the correct drivers installed for the NEX.
