Title: how to make requests for songs in playing now
Post by: trott on March 23, 2011, 05:09:40 am
Hi,

I know there are a certain number of things to control MC from another device (party mode, library server, gizmo, ?) but what would be the best way to allow non-mc users running pc's to queue up songs for playback (ie make requests) ?

Also nice would be if this were possible from either iphone or android devices.

WebRemote allows both play and add functionality.

This is almost what I need: I would like to:
1) add a song as next to play
2) add a song to the end of the playing now list

With webremote other people can immediately start a song (not too bad) but my playing now list gets replaced by that one song (not good).

You can consider BitRemote fka xpTunes:

It's able to add a file as next to play. With some html tweaking, you can also move a file within the Playing Now list as next to play.

With WebRemote, it's possible to add a song at the end of the list with the MCWS PlayByKey function (you also need to modify a html file).

What is the reason for needing this feature? DJ service?
I was not aware of the clear playing now list when selecting play in WebRemote that is really bad.
There are some command line parameters to do what you desire but they are not
supported by the MCWS which is what all of the web based utilities use as far a I know.
A third party server application could be setup to pass the commands but that might not
be feasible depending on you abilities.

The idea is to start playing songs in the office.
People can queue up songs they like.
People can also skip playing songs they don't like.

We used to do this with iTunes and the iphone remote app from Apple.

That's interesting. Can you tell me what those commands are?
Thanks

The ability to define which play options are available in different modes would be incredible useful.

For example, I'd like to set my system so that only 'Play (shuffle remaining)' would be available when I activate Party Mode.
