Sooo.... Should MC see this phone as a handheld device or what? Doesn't seem to...
-
Make sure you can see the storage on the device as a drive in Windows.
If not, try mounting the storage from the notification bar at the top of the device screen once you connect the USB.

It is seen as a drive. But MC doesn't see it.

There isn't a guaranteed way to tell if a removable drive is an Android device, so we look for clues. For example, a ".android" folder. Or an android folder in the DCIM path.
So you might take a picture with the phone to make sure one of the clues is there, and then connect the phone and restart Media Center. Does Media Center think the Optimus is an Android then?

Not seeing any clues that it might be an android phone in that....

January 6, 1980?

Probably the date/time the phone defaulted to.
Just as a quick aside to anyone considering the LG Optimus V and Virgin Mobile's $25 unlimited data plan. I've yet to have this phone actually transmit and/or receive any data via 3G. Wireless, sure. 3G, no. Unlimited 0G data is no feature.
-
Could you send me a log of Media Center starting up and running for a minute or two with the phone connected?
Thanks.

It was seen after I switched to a larger memory card in the optimus v and reformatted it. Then I did another rescan.
Oh, and 7 days in and they still do not have the 3G running.

And finally I have working 3G. Huzzah!

Now that it's working, what are your impressions of the phone and the service?

Assuming it continues to work I find 3G with this fone is far faster than it was with my HD2 and t-mobile. It is a reasonably capable Android phone. Fairly current version of android. Everything works well. Swype works very well. The phone itself works well.
The screen is pretty iffy. It can be tough to read outside. The camera is horrible. Nearly 3 weeks to get the phone setup right is a bit much. First level of support sucks. They either can't hear you or they think it is funny to get you to scream into the phone. (I think it is the latter.) How many times does one have pull the battery before they figure out that ain't the problem? Second level is very helpful.
I like the no contract bit. For $25 a month I think it is a really good deal.
Now to get android on my old HD2 and use it as an MP3 player.

Thanks for the report, it does sound like a great deal for a data plan. My son had been begging for one of these for his birthday, until he changed his mind to a netbook which was fine with me since I now have my laptop back :)
I'm hoping T-Mobile comes out with a better pay-as-you-go data option at some point.
