Title: track listings from 1 album separated into multiple "albums"
Post by: kweaver on May 01, 2011, 10:05:15 pm
Just imported 300+ cd files and encountered a really strange problem.  This happened numerous times with many, many albums, but here is one example:  One album shows up 3 times in the album list.  Song 6 appears on 1 album only, songs 2,3,4,5,7,8,9,10 on a second thumbnail (identical art, artist, album name, and everything else), and track 1 shows up on an "unknown" album by an "unknown artist thumbanil," but it actually shows the art of the album!  Also got a bunch where one album shows up 10 times for each of the 10 tracks on it, with each track in its own, separate album folder,

This happneed with too many of the albums for me to try to manually correct everything.

Any ideas what's going on?  Never had any problem like this with WMP.

Ensure that the tag fields "Album", "Album Artist" and "Artist" are all exactly the same for each album where multiples occur. When you have done this hit "refresh"

Check also for case agreement.

I've had problems when some songs were tagged "Orchstral Manoeuvres In The Dark" vs. "Orchstral Manouvres in the Dark".

....and ensure spaces are uniform :)

How is one to accommodate varying Artist, e.g. on a "Various Artists" compilation?

Check the "Album Artist (auto)/Album (need basic explanation)" link in the first post of this thread: http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=59513
and the Wiki article here: http://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/Album_Artist_and_Album_Artist_(Auto) (http://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/Album_Artist_and_Album_Artist_(Auto))

Sure, but "Ensure that the tag fields "Album", "Album Artist" and "Artist" are all exactly the same for each album where multiples occur" disallows that.

That is not exactly correct.

"Album" can be whatever you want and "Album Artist" can be whatever you want (or empty) as long as no individual album track has differing values in these two fields.

If the "Artist" values inside a single album are not identical for each track and the "Album Artist" field is empty the automatic "Album Artist (auto)" value will be (multiple artists). If you wish to have some other "Album Artist (auto)" value you can override the automatic value by tagging something to the "Album Artist" field.

OK thanks, then I take it the correct version is

Ensure that the tag fields "Album" and "Album Artist" all exactly the same for each album where multiples occur

or, more completely:

Ensure that the tag fields "Album" and "Album Artist" all exactly the same within each album where multiples occur, and that the same pair do not appear on any other album
