Title: Content-based audio classification and retrieval
Post by: NWLanding on May 10, 2011, 11:50:02 am
I did a search for this topic and got nothing. Has there been any discussion about applying research on content-based audio classification and retrieval within media center? Something like the music gnome that provides a more robust classification than simplistic id3 tagging? It would be nice to pick an artist from my collection and request a playlist based on the style of that artist. Am I missing some existing functionality that comes close to the same outcome? There's an interesting paper by Zhang and Kuo title "Hierarchical System for Content-based Audio Classification and Retrival" (http://citeseerx.ist.psu.edu/viewdoc/download?doi=10.1.1.31.561&rep=rep1&type=pdf (http://citeseerx.ist.psu.edu/viewdoc/download?doi=10.1.1.31.561&rep=rep1&type=pdf))

I just discovered Play Doctor, which essentially accomplishes what I was referring to.
