Title: FPS Field Feedback
Post by: jmone on May 26, 2011, 05:39:58 pm
Hi, Just did an Update Library on my test files too populate the new FPS field, comments:
- Mostly worked correctly
- Did not determine a FPS for ISO, WMV, Blu-ray mpls or bdmv - raw m2ts is fine (now this one is Odd as MC will generate the thumbnail just fine)
- Does not let you manually select (or edit) a value if you want to correct or complete a value.  EDIT - You can manually select or edit just fine

Looks good!  Imagine what you can do with such info!

PS - I then tried my entire Library of 1,500+ and while it did all of them it did not update any FPS details after the first 39.  It would not update any details till I restarted MC, and I'm now doing it in batches.  I was also testing the streaming to Gizmo of a Blu-ray disc at the same time so who know!

Ugg - rebuilding 1,500+ thumbnails.....  I might do this by bits or is there a way of updating the Meta Data from the file without regenerating thumbnails?

I seemed to get slightly different results pending if RedOctober is On or Off but anyway, over my Video Files - the Update Library (from Tags) filled the FPS in as follows:
- All of avi, divx, jtv, m2t, m2ts, mkv, mp4, mpls, mts, ts
- Very Few mpg
- None of bdmv (yet mpls works + it thumbnailed them), ifo, iso, mov (but thumbnailed them), sfw, wmv (but thumbnailed them)

V99 with RO and Other ON = I am now able to populate the FPS on the MPG files.

OK - did a full "Update Library (from Tags) and can confirm that in V99 with my filter selection (RO and Other On = LAVSplitter, LAVAudio, FFDSHOW) the following:
- All of avi, divx, jtv, m2t, m2ts, mpg, mkv, mp4, mpls, mts, ts
- None of bdmv (yet mpls works + it thumbnailed them), ifo, iso, mov (but thumbnailed them), sfw, wmv (but thumbnailed them)

Other Notes (odd details in the Compression Field)
adpcm_ima in an AVI Container is being reported as "audio: unknown codec"
pcm_s16le in an AVI Container (Note: DV) is being reported as "audio: unknown codec"
e-ac3 in a m2ts/MKV/MPLS Container is being reported as "audio: unknown codec"
VC-1 in a MKV/MPLS Container is being reported as "video: unknown codec"
True-HD in a MKV Container is being reported as "audio: unknown codec"
pcm_s24le in a MKV Container is being reported as "audio: unknown codec"
vorbis in a MKV Container is being reported as "audio: unknown codec"

Enthusiasm for this feature suggests I don't know enough. Anyone care to share how FPS data can be used in MC?

If you knew the FPS of something, you could change the TV/monitor's refresh rate to match as playback started.

Or at least this is why we HOPE this field has been added :)
