I have eight files that show in standard view but only 5 are showing in theatre view.
I have tried re importing but still the same.

What theatre view category are they supposed to be in?
When that's happened to me I've found that the problem can be the media sub-type isn't set.

Then you have a problem with the view or tags.
Go to Options - Theater View and Items to Show. Select the appropriate view and click "Set rules for file display". You have to be sure to include all the media types and sub types that you want to be viewed here. If there still is a problem, you have to check the tags on your media. It is possible that MC it self is selecting some strange Media Subtype tags based on length etc on video files. This is now done automatically on new video files.

The view is not a problem as up till now everything has displayed correctly.
Which tags should i be looking at

Look under video in the tree and then under types. Do these files turn up in the unassigned category?

no they dont. they have video on them.
There are different things missing but are not editable leke size etc.
I have managed to remove and get five to show up but three will not show up no matter what I do.

I cant see anything missing except Bitrate compression and duration

Select all the files, go to the "Action Window" on the left lower corner. Hit Tag, click on the top left icon in this window to select show all tags. Scroll down to the tags called "Media Type" and "Media Sub Type". If any of this is now shown as [Varies], then you have them tagged as different media or media subtype. The new Theater View views is highly dependent on this fields to be correctly. It's probably Media Sub Type that is wrong. That's the most important one. Media Type is most often correct.

All the Media type is the same Video. The Media sub type in my TV shows are not listed on any of them and they are ok.
Just did a test and marked them with a subtype and it worked.
Should I mark all my TV shows.?

Bingo! :) If they have no data in Media Sub Type, they will never show up in Theater View.
The new builds of MC16 is supposed to fix this somewhat automatic though. MC will try to set the Media Syb Types under import. But if they are not of correct length they might fail. So, if you are using a later build, then my fear of this new system is justified. Please give us a way to set tags on automatic import, aka folder watch :)

Thats odd as I have never had to use the sub type before, is this new??
Now how do i name Documentaries?
The type is Video what is the sub type?

This have changed with the new set of views in Theater View, yes.
Unfortunately, you can not add new data to this Media Sub Types. So you will not be able to choose Documentaries. this is one of the biggest reason why people is pushing J River to allowing adding data types to this tag. But, no.
You have 3 options as I see it.
1. Mark it as TV Show and live with it.
2. Mark it as Other. But this will give you some problems with Documentaries not showing up in TV. You have to do some editing on the Views. You can select anything here, really. As long as you know what you tag them as. But this will break the automatic tagging for sure. If it ever have worked good enough. No matter what you select for tags, you can still rename and edit the views, so it looks logical on the outside.
3. You can create your own video sub type Library field. I've added one called Video Sub Type my self, and I have full control over this, and my Theater View's is based upon this, rather than Media Sub Type. This WILL however prevent you from utilizing the automatic tagging system in MC16. So you'll have to tag all video files anyway.

I have my documentaries categorised with the genre tag and list them as sub type TV.
If they have no data in Media Sub Type, they will never show up in Theater View.
I think a recent build improved this to allow some guessing about media sub types and so some files will show up without being set. I deliberately exclude these files though, as I don't want anything showing up in theatre view until I've fully tagged it.
Maid, I keep all files set by sub type as it's important for browsing in theatre view. It shouldn't be too hard to do them on mass.
