Title: Rating of pictures not transferred to MC
Post by: kkmc996 on June 08, 2011, 09:14:03 am
Hello,

I searched for that, but I couldn't find anything on this topic.
I am pre tagging my pictures using Nikons View NX. Windows 7 Explorer shows the rating properly.
After I imported the pictures to MC16 this information gets lost. Also if I apply changes in MC16 these are not written back, or I can't see them using explorer. This is also not working reading the tag info and writing to the database or reading databaseinfo and writing it to file.

What can I do to reuse the rating?

Thanks in advance

Karl

What types of files are you using?  JPEG or RAW?

For JPEG, Media Center supports bot EXIF and IPTC, so I would expect tags to move nicely with the files.

Hi Jim,

Is there coming any real IPTC support in JRM regarding separate Country, State, City, Sublocation coming in the near future.

Full precision GPS information along with locating pictures on Google Maps was recently added to v16.

I have a compact camera with a GPS, and this is a pretty neat feature.

Hi Matt

That's great. But what i still don't understand: why is it still not possible to use the Location tags like Country city state and sublocation in JRM. It's still gathered in one thing called Places. That way it's not possible to use JRM to tag and sort and do all the funstuff like i do with audio.
Make a smartlist of all images not having a country tag. --> so i can give them a name
Same for the other IPTC tags City State and sublocation.

If the tags are read and stored properly to and from the images you'll have a universal way to tag your images.
Freeware like GeoSetter can tag your images based on GPS data quite fast, once you're used to it.

I'm asking for this for two years now. I still don't see a good reason why IPTC tags are NOT implemented properly

Cheers
Tonse

Most info is but the Windows 7 and vista ratings are not imported in mc. Would be a great addition to add support for this not only for photo's but also other files. I think a lot of people use the windows native ratings.

I have also tagged titles of TIF photos with Windows 7 Explorer. These Title tags are not being read in MC16.

Hi Matt,

I have to bring this topic up again.
So, if I rate JPegs  or add keywords to them (in Explorer, Nikon ViewNX, NX2, Adobe Lightroom) it works along every program.
But unfortunately I can't see or retrieve this information into the current version of MC16.
If you shoot in RAW and process your pix you usually do some tagging in these programs to, so it would save time reusing the already assigned infos.

But maybe I am doing something wrong. Do you have any idea?

THX
