I assume you can search across all tags by entering a value in the search window. For example, I entered "rodney crowell" in the search box and files were returned where rodney crowell was the composer. Using tags, I entered rodney crowell as the composer for some additional songs. However, these files were then not returned when searching again on "rodney crowell". However, when searching on "composer=rodney crowell", they were returned. Why? and is there anything that can make the easier search of "rodney crowell" return complete results?

See the last line here:

Look at Default search field.

But composer is a default search field, so why when I update a composer tag is the manually updated tag not returned when I search?

I'm not sure what is happening in your case.
My default search for the Composer field is unchecked. A search for David Lang, and nothing returns.
Check the default search check box for Composer, and now a search on David Lang returns The Little Match Girl Passion.
Turn it off, and immediately the search results clear. And a re-search again shows nothing as expected.

Now there's a man with good taste :)

Okay, I went too fast. The default search box for composer was unchecked and I checked it and got the desired behavior.
I'm not sure why the search found tags that were auto-loaded when I ripped CDs when it was unchecked, but I guess I don't care.
And sauzee, thanks for the compliment. Who else should I have in my catalog?
