Title: "Loop from point A to point B continously"-button??
Post by: Martin166 on June 25, 2011, 07:03:28 am
I´m very much missing a button like "Loop from point A to point B continously"!
VLC-player has this possibility. So why not MC16??? ?

Record A-B in [Playback Range] and set Repeat (the icon to the right of the progress bar).

Where can I find [Playback Range]?

Where can I find [Playback Range]?

It's a tag. Alt+Enter, right-click tag window, "Also Show->", Playback Range.

I have absolutely no idea what you mean with "record A-B in Playback Range".

I can record something with MC16???

Write in (Fill in) Point A and Point B in the tag field.

I did that:

write in the "Playback Range" tag field:

00:30:00 - 00:30:10       (in order to repeat 10 second at 0:30:00)

Is this correct?

What comes next?

(I´ve set the play cursor to 0:29:55 and activated "Repeat Playing Now" - but there is no repeat at all : the play cursor marches on...)

You can show the column 'Playback Range' and enter a range by hand.

Edit any file (or select multiple files and edit them all at once) and enter something like:
0:30 (play first 30 seconds)
0:60- (start at 60 seconds, play to end (notice the dash))
0:30-0:60 (play from 30 seconds to 60 seconds)

The value will be used any time the file is played, and must be cleared (set to empty) to play the full file.

You can also use whole numbers to represent milliseconds (e.g., 30000-60000).

Repeating is a completely separate matter. "Repeat Playing Now" repeats whatever is in the Playing Now playlist. To repeat the selected track (for which you may or may not have set a Playback Range), choose "Repeat Current Item."

It simply does not work here! Tried everything. :(

The playcursor marches on and never repeats the range ("Repeat Current Item" is checked). When I stop the playback and start it again, it will start where I stopped the last time. Any entry in the tag field "Playback Range" is ignored.

By the way, in my opinion this workaround (provided it would work) is much too complicated. If MediaCenter16 has the ambition to be a comfortable player tool then it needs that A-B-loop button! (even VLC has one and it is freeware!)

Is there anything at the option page that has to be checked first?

Doesn´t it work because I´m on old winXP?

Or what else am I doing wrong? Please help. Thanks!

For what its worth, I'm not seeing this.

I tested the playback range with a 2 hour recording, and set the range to be 7:00 - 7:10.

Each time I hit play, MC played 10 seconds, starting from the same point (7 minutes).  MC played 10 seconds worth of audio.  Stop and Play reset the playback to 7:00 and again, 10 seconds of playback.

The only change I made was in Player->Playback Options to set Switch tracks: Gapless, as otherwise, by default with smooth crossfade, the end of the audio fades out into the repeat of the beginning of the segment.

I thought that the setting Use Bookmarking = Yes might be the cause of why you experience audio not restarting at the range's entry point, but I can't repeat your experience.  Are you sure you're not hitting the Pause button instead of the Stop button?  When I stop here, and hit Play, audio begins where we expect.

Can you elaborate more?

...why you experience audio not restarting at the range's entry point...

Wh are you talking about audio? I´m talking about video.

I just tried it with an audio file and it really works.

Perhaps because there is no hint in this thread that video was the media.

Who uses VLC player for audio?  ;)

I have some music videos with intros that I would like to skip. I've tried Play Range before with video, but didn't have any success. It would be nice to use this tag for video. I do agree that a Loop feature would also be nice.

I wonder why I can set [Playback Range] for videos and it is not meant to work.

A loop feature would not only also be nice: it is a "must have" for a comfortable player!!!

Please implement it with an update. ;)

Comfortable? (http://www.forum.trshady.com/images/smilies/facepalm.gif)  Don't you realize this is the Ferrari of media managers? Real men find comfort in power, speed and handling!  ;)

I just realize that this Ferrari lacks a very important feature. I´m finding comfort in doing a quick A-B-loop like in VLC.
I don´t want a media manager and I don´t use all this managing stuff. I just want a simple player (with comforable features like the loop button) with ASIO sound and VST support for video playback. If VLC had these sound features there would be no need for MC16.  :P

It's working well (VLC).
Hotkey is Shift+L
But firstly need to switch on advanced controls (view -> advanced controls).
